About NAFI

Overview

The NAFI site was developed by the former Tropical Savannas Cooperative Research Centre and north Australian fire managers and is supported by the Northern Territory Government. It sources relevant fire management data, such as hotspots (locations of recently burning fires as deteced by satellites) and fire scars (maps of recently burnt country as detected by satellites) and displays them as maps tailored to north Australian conditions.

Hotspots are sourced from Landgate Western Australia (from NOAA and NASA satellites) and Geoscience Australia (from NASA satellites).

Firescars are sourced from Bushfires NT (for NT and northern WA fire scars) and Cape York Peninsula Sustainable Futures (for Queensland).

The site has also been funded by the Federal Government's Natural Heritage Trust program, through the NT NRM Board. The site is hosted at Charles Darwin University.

Terms of use

The information available from this website is to be used as a management tool only. The information is able to determine relative temperature differences or "hotspots", but is not intended to be able to determine the cause of or identify the nature of such "hotspots".

The information on this website is dependent on the availability and functioning of satellites. The quality and geo-positional accuracy of the information cannot be guaranteed. Information may therefore be outdated, inaccurate or incomplete at the time of using this website due to circumstances existing at that time such as unavailability of or delay in data supply from satellites, inability to obtain precise data caused by the inherent spatial inaccuracies of satellite sensors or inability to obtain complete data due to the prevailing weather conditions at the time of over-flight.

No reliance or actions must therefore be made on this information without seeking prior expert professional, scientific and technical advice to determine the identification and actual cause of the "hotspot"; and without carrying out on the ground surveillance and investigations.

To the extent permitted by law, the copyright holders (including its employees and consultants) exclude all liability to any person for any consequences, including but not limited to all losses, damages, costs, expenses and any other compensation, arising directly or indirectly from using this website (in part or in whole) and any information or material contained in it.
