NAFI Fire Scar Map Download

The fire scar maps on the NAFI site are produced from MODIS 250m satellite imagery, and are updated roughly every week during the fire season.
Fire scars are identified by the mapping period and are allocated to the month that most closely matches the mapping period.

The mapping covers all of northern Australia but its extent varies between jurisdictions and years: for WA mapping only extends down to to 20 degrees south for all years. For the NT mapping extends to 20 degrees south for 2004-2008 and to the southern NT border for all years after that; For Qld mapping extends to 20 degrees south for 2004 and to the southern Qld border for all years after that.

The data is provided here for users to view off-line using their own mapviewer or GIS software.

Firescar data is available as shape files and as geotiff image files. The shape files are available for whole years and as individual months for the current year.
